Does anyone know of a home based business that actualy works? I really don't have time or money for another scam, waiting list, MLM, or any one of the thousands of ways people promise home based work and don't deliver. I need to find a steady, reliable home based business that will provide a steady reliable income. Does such a thing actually exist?

Re: Need home based work
Sat, April 12, 2008 - 7:12 PMUnfortunately I don't remember where, but I did find a list (through my digging on changing course) of companies that hire people for data entry from home. Several of them have online applications w/ associated typing tests directly on their website. -

Re: Need home based work
Mon, July 7, 2008 - 9:02 PMWell, you have to be prepared to offer some skill or talent to people, or at least provide a service that other people don't want to do for themselves.
I myself have started a business doing airbrushing and silkscreening on T-shirts, which has a very low investment cost (under $500).
The only home based business I can think of that has NO start up investment costs would be a research business. Basically, this could be using the internet to do research for people, or could involve clipping newspaper and magazine articles out for clients. A client would hire you to look up everything you could on say, bicycling in New York city, and you would provide them with newspaper articles, magazines, websites, book titles, etc.
This could also include something such as clipping out pictures as well. Many people could use pictures of let's say, animals..but also practically any other image you can think of. Artists, libraries, Advertising people, photographers, etc are always looking for images. Pick up some National Geographic magazines out of the garbage or at a garage sale, take a pair of scissors and start clipping pictures out and filing them according to category (Aardvarks, Apes, Artifacts, etc.) Artists call this a 'Photo Morgue', and these things are available at your local (reference) library, too. It's true that Google image search does much the same thing, but there is no comparison of the quality of a magazine photo and one ripped from the internet (not to mention copyright violations).
I came across a book once, called '100 home based businesses you can start on a shoe-string budget'. Some of the ideas in this book were truly innovative, and I watched as other people started them up themselves and turned them into a profitable home-based business. The 'research based' idea above was in this book. One of the other ideas was making wire trash-baskets at home, then selling the ADVERTISING space on the sides of them. There never seems to be enough trash baskets around in any urban environment, and you don't need anyone's permission (such as the city) to put a trash basket somewhere.
Advertising is huge business. Many companies will pay you pretty well if you can think of an innovative way to advertise their product for them. Any money spent on advertising is also tax deductible. This is how (and why) you can make money by making wire trash baskets. There was a punker in New York City that used to charge people (Advertisers) $1000 a month to have their ad shaved into the back of his head. You might have seen him in a Volkswagen commercial.

Re: Need home based work
Mon, July 7, 2008 - 9:11 PMOh, I forgot to mention. One of the businesses started on a shoestring was a woman that offered a 'green' diaper service. She used only cloth diapers, and picked up the used, dirty diapers in a cart on her bicycle. She laundered the diapers at home, then brought them back to her clients on her bicycle. Perhaps not the most appetizing of jobs, but she was making a very good living at it. It's also a good example of providing a service for others that no one else wants to do.
If you can cook or bake goodies at all, you could make things like rice crispie squares, scones or cookies for local cafes. This might surprise you, but most often the cafes don't make these things themselves. Instead, they rely on suppliers such as a bakery. In fact, if you can cook at all, then catering is another business you can start out of your home for little more than the cost of food.

Re: Need home based work
Tue, July 8, 2008 - 4:16 PMSomething you might be interested in checking out : zreedom.ws/blog I am involved in an MLM that I mention on the blog, but it mainly directs you towards an online marketing system that is free(there are some parts you can pay for if you choose.) This system is a way that you can make money online with almost no down investment, but you have to be willing to learn. The system also has the added bonus of putting you in contact with other people looking to do the same, many of whom are succeeding. Check it out and if you had any questions you could contact me @: dylanpickle@gmail.com -

Re: Need home based work
Fri, July 11, 2008 - 8:18 AMI recommend learning about internet marketing / SEO. I have studied my brains out for 3 solid years, and it has been good to me - allows me to work from home, travel, etc. It's hard work and it changes fast, though.
Do NOT get involved in any kind of MLM or easy "system".. the only reason these systems exist are to make money off YOU... not for you to make money.

Re: Need home based work
Fri, July 18, 2008 - 4:41 PMI agree with your recommendation to learn SEO/Internet Marketing but I have to say that damning the entire Network marketing industry as scams seems a little closed minded. There have been many unscrupulous companies in the past in Network marketing which has caused some damage to the image of the industry. But in reality it is simply a modified distribution plan with product being sold through word of mouth as opposed to on store shelves. As for Systems that you may find online, Most will be scams or just people trying to make a quick buck but there are a few out there that provide access to good training, programs and information. -

Re: Need home based work
Fri, July 18, 2008 - 5:02 PMSelling products through word of mouth is a relic from traveling salesmen in the 1930's...
it's not a legitimate / modern / efficient distribution system... Not in the age of global shipping and the internet- where anyone can find anything they possibly want.
As a professional work-at-home marketer, I would be exceedingly cautious about joining any kind of "word of mouth" or network marketing system.
Don't get into a field where 90%+ of the programs are basically scams, even if there are a few good ones.
Get into a more modern, future-oriented kind of marketing.
